Gr. 6, 2nd Yr. National Achievement Tests ISA Ranks 3rd & 7th Respectively in Iloilo ISA's Grade 6 Ranks 1st in Math

The results of the National Achievement Tests (NAT) given by the Department of Education to all public and private school 2nd year students, and all public and selected private school grade 6 pupils last March were released recently. Based on the 2nd year examinees' total average scores in 5 learning areas (Filipino, English, Math, Science, HEKASI [Social Studies]), ISA ranks 7th among the 55 schools in Iloilo City. The top 10 schools are (by rank): SPED-Integrated School for Exceptional Children (public), Philippine Science High School (public), U.P. High School (state), Assumption-Iloilo, Ateneo de Iloilo, West Visayas State University-Laboratory School, ISA, Great International [also ranks 7th], Harvester International, Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus.

Among the 17 selected private schools in Iloilo City designated by DepED to participate in this year's grade 6 National Achievement Test, ISA ranks third in terms of average scores in five learning areas. The top 10 private schools are (by rank): Philippine American Progress School, Children Integrated School of Alta Tierra, ISA, Ateneo de Iloilo, St. Joseph School, Fil-Am School Town, Assumption-Iloilo, Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, Iloilo Central Commercial High School-Ledesco, and Angelicum.

The results further reveal that ISAers of both levels fared exceptionally well in Math: 2nd Year learners rank 4th, while grade 6 ISAers rank 1st (with a percentage score of 73.33; 22.43 percentage points above the average score).

Though the results in general show that ISAers of both levels did well in English and Science, but their relatively low scores in Filipino and HEKASI (test was in Filipino, ISA uses English textbook) reflect some flaws in ISA's academic structure. It seems that the heavy bias towards English, Math and Science has taken its toll.

Mikids for the ISA Kids

With the integration of the computer-based Mikids multimedia enrichment program using a multiple intelligence approach that caters to the different learning styles of children into the ISA preschool curriculum, we expect the learning process will not only be richer in content but, more so, will give the children an entirely unique world-class learning experiences.

The Mikids program encompasses four areas: Moral Education, English with Phonics, Math Challenge and Science Discovery.

Preschool Department Enjoys Priority in Resource Allotment

It is a known fact within the ISA community that the school administration has been serious in laying down the ground work to gradually reduce, if not totally bar, transferees from other schools in the elementary and secondary levels in the next five years. Determined not to repeat last year's mistake in refusing to admit preschool applicants due to lack of classrooms, two elementary classrooms were converted into preschool learning areas this year, resulting to the reduction of one section in grade one.

Before the conversion, our preschool facilities could only accommodate a maximum of 120 learners.

Before the conversion, our preschool facilities could only accommodate a maximum of 120 learners. Thanks to the structural adjustment, ISA preschool now has 154 enrollees (with maximum capacity of 170). But even this is considerably less than the total capacity of 280 designed for the preschool in the new ISA Campus. Shown here is the bird's eye view of the proposed preschool building a the ISA new site.
