Jan Jarnel Tiu Receives Australian Mathematics Competition Award

Jan Jarnel Geyenne Tiu, a third year high school learner, received a Credit Certificate Award from the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) for the Westpac Awards after he took the test last 25 July 2007 in Iloilo City.

This world-wide competition started in 1978. It eventually became an international event with countries throughout the Pacific and South East Asia participating in the competition.

AMC is for students of all standards. The first 20 questions are intended to evaluate students’ classroom learning experiences. The remaining problems are wider in scope and considerably more difficult. Furthermore, these problems are designed to ensure the skills commensurate to the academic standard in Australian and New Zealand.

Values Formation : Bioethics

Values formation is always at the core of ISA’s educational philosophy. Building a desirable character in every learner is one of the three facets of our school’s mission, the other two being intellectual aptitude and physical fitness. On 14 November, the 3rd and 4th year learners attended a talk on “Bioethical Issues” organized by the Guidance Office. Invited speaker, Dr. Bubbles Ramos, informatively delivered a lecture regarding the subject and other related issues. Meanwhile on 15 November, another dynamic and interactive talk on justice was held for Grade VI and 1st year learners. The speaker, Atty. Lina Layson, effectively caught the attention of the learners during the talk. In fact, learners were asking if another schedule could be set for further discussion on this subject.
