14 ISAers Join Xiamen Summer Camp

Fourteen ISAers joined the summer study camp held at Xiamen City in April to May this year. They belonged to the 7th batch of ISA learners who took part in the 8-week long study and tour package jointly organized by the Tan Yan Kee Foundation and Philippine Chinese Education Research Center. |

Since its operation in 2004, ISA has been active in sending learners, 1st and 2nd years specially, to this annual event which helps polish their Mandarin. |

A TRIP TO HISTORY. Grade2 learners’ field trip on February 18 brought them to six places. The first was Science Centrum, followed by a visit of the ancestral house of the prolific Filipino writers in Hiligaynon, Magdalena Jalandoni. The house stands as a historical landmark near Jaro Cathedral.

They then visited Cabatuan, a town thriving with history, and to the Parish Church and the golf course of Sta. Barbara, first ever in the Philippines. It was a trip that cultivates the ISAers’ love of one’s own cultural and artistic heritage. |
ISA-LC spearheads 1st Fun Run
After getting the target 120 positive votes, ISA Learners Council proposed a plan to the executive director, Mr. Peter M. Chan, to hold a Fun Run on 20 March, and was immediately approved. According to an officer of the ISA-LC it started with an idea of celebrating Family Day starting off with the fun run.

The campaign started in the social networking facebook and through asking fellow ISAers in school if they are going to participate. Permits were processed, flyers, invitations and solicitations were sent out to raise fund for the activity. Grades 4 to Fourth year learners were encouraged to join. |

Around 5 am in the morning of 20 March, runners composed of learners, parents and guests began to gather in front of ISA new Campus at San Rafael, Mandurriao. The route covers the area from San Rafael to Boardwalk and Diversion road. |

The first one hundred runners to reach the finish line were given ISA T-shirt emblazoned with “I finished ISA Fun Run”, while the top three received additional cash prizes. There were kiosks, photo booth and game booths, like bingos, to add fun. For ISA-LC officers who spearheaded the event, it was a major breakthrough. They received commendations for organizing such a major off-campus event solely on their own. RJ. |
